STL IBCRecycle

Your Tote, Your Rules

IBC totes are incredibly versatile containers — and with the right modifications, they become even more capable. Our fabrication team can cut, weld, drill, and adapt IBC tanks for virtually any application you can imagine.

Our modification shop is staffed by 3 experienced fabricators with combined experience totaling over 35 years in plastics welding, steel fabrication, and industrial container engineering. We complete an average of 120 custom modification projects per month, ranging from simple port additions that take 30 minutes to complex multi-feature builds that require 2-3 days of fabrication time.

Every modification we perform is designed to maintain the structural integrity of the IBC tote while adding the functionality you need. We use only materials that are chemically compatible with HDPE and galvanized steel, and every weld, cut, and fitting is pressure-tested or load-tested before the unit leaves our shop. If we cannot build what you need safely, we will tell you upfront and suggest alternatives.

Engineering Consultation Process

Every custom modification begins with a free consultation. Whether you know exactly what you need or just have a rough idea, our process is designed to take you from concept to finished product efficiently.

1

Describe Your Application

Tell us what you want the modified IBC to do. What will it hold? What environment will it operate in? What fittings, connections, or features do you need? If you have drawings, sketches, or reference photos, share them. If you only have a verbal description, that works too — we translate concepts into specifications every day.

2

Feasibility Review & Design

Our lead fabricator reviews your requirements for feasibility, safety, and material compatibility. We check that the proposed modifications will not compromise the structural rating of the cage or bottle, that the materials are compatible with your intended contents, and that the finished product meets any applicable codes. We provide a marked-up diagram showing all proposed modifications with dimensions within 2 business days.

3

Quotation & Approval

You receive a detailed quote covering: base tote cost (if we supply it), each modification itemized with labor and materials, estimated completion date, and any testing or certification included. Quotes are valid for 30 days. For repeat orders (10+ identical units), we provide volume discounts of 10-20% on modification labor.

4

Fabrication & Testing

Once approved, fabrication begins. Standard modifications (ports, valves, basic cuts) are completed within 3-5 business days. Complex builds (heating systems, multi-port assemblies, structural reinforcements) take 7-10 business days. Every modification is tested: ports are pressure-tested at 5 PSI for 10 minutes, welds are visually inspected to AWS D1.1 standards, and mechanical components are function-tested before release.

5

Delivery & Documentation

The completed unit is photographed from multiple angles and delivered to your site (or held for pickup). You receive a modification report documenting all work performed, materials used, test results, and care/maintenance recommendations. For ongoing orders, we keep your specification on file for instant reorder.

Recent Project Examples

Here are a few examples of custom modification projects we have completed recently. These illustrate the range of what is possible with an IBC tote and the right fabrication expertise.

Brewery Fermentation Vessel (x8 units)

A craft brewery in St. Charles needed affordable fermentation tanks. We modified 8 Grade A IBC totes with: top-entry 4-inch tri-clamp port for yeast pitching and sampling, 1.5-inch side port at the 10-gallon mark for racking, bottom dump valve upgraded to 2-inch stainless tri-clamp butterfly, thermowell port for temperature probe, and full food-grade sanitization cleaning. The client saved approximately $2,800 per unit compared to purpose-built fermenters. Completed in 8 business days.

Mobile Wash Station for Construction Site

A general contractor needed portable handwash stations. We modified 4 IBC totes with: dual 3/4-inch spigots on opposite sides (for two simultaneous users), foot-pedal activated flow valves to conserve water, top-mounted screened fill port for garden hose refilling, pump-mounted soap dispenser bracket, and drain port with gray-water collection fitting. Total cost per unit was 60% less than renting commercial portable sinks. Completed in 6 business days.

Chemical Dispensing System (x24 units)

A janitorial supply company needed IBC totes configured for pump-dispensing concentrated cleaning chemicals. Each unit received: a 2-inch cam-lock fitting at the bottom for quick-connect to their dispensing pumps, a 2-inch breather vent cap to prevent vacuum lock during pumping, a graduated sight glass for level monitoring, Viton gaskets throughout (solvent-compatible), and custom vinyl labels with their branding and product identification. This was a repeat order at volume pricing. Completed in 10 business days for all 24 units.

Aquaponics System for Urban Farm
