Detailed Category Guide

Used IBC Totes — The Value Leader

Used IBC totes are containers that have completed one or more service cycles and are sold as-is after a basic visual inspection. They represent the most affordable way to acquire bulk liquid storage, with per-gallon costs as low as $0.25. Our used inventory includes 275-gallon and 330-gallon sizes with HDPE bottles, galvanized steel cages, and steel or plastic pallets.

Every used tote is graded on a three-tier system (A, B, C) based on bottle clarity, cage condition, valve function, and pallet integrity. Grade A units are nearly cosmetically perfect, while Grade C units show significant wear but remain structurally sound and leak-free. All grades are appropriate for non-food applications including water storage, irrigation, pressure washer supply, construction sites, and industrial fluid handling.

Used totes are the top choice for budget-conscious buyers, DIY projects, and applications where appearance is secondary to function. They are also the most sustainable option, extending the useful life of a container that would otherwise be shredded and landfilled.

Reconditioned Tanks — Best of Both Worlds

Reconditioned IBC tanks undergo a full restoration process: disassembly, triple-wash cleaning, pressure testing, cage straightening, new gaskets and seals, and detailed documentation. The result is a container that performs like new at 40-60% less than the cost of a virgin unit.

We offer two tiers of reconditioned tanks. Food-grade reconditioned totes are cleaned with FDA-approved agents and come with full documentation of prior contents and wash records — suitable for food processing, beverage production, and agricultural chemicals. Industrial reconditioned totes go through the same mechanical process but are intended for non-food liquids such as soaps, lubricants, coolants, and cleaning solutions.

Each reconditioned unit saves approximately 350 kg of CO₂ compared to manufacturing a new container. For businesses running sustainability programs or tracking Scope 3 emissions, reconditioned tanks are a documented, measurable step toward lower environmental impact.

New IBC Tanks — Zero-Compromise Performance

Brand-new IBC tanks use virgin HDPE bottles that have never held any previous contents. This makes them the mandatory choice for pharmaceutical production, cosmetics manufacturing, specialty chemicals, and any application governed by FDA, cGMP, or similar regulatory frameworks that prohibit reused containers.

Our new tanks come from ISO 9001-certified manufacturers and carry full factory warranties covering material defects and workmanship. They are available in 275-gallon and 330-gallon capacities with steel or HDPE pallets, and they carry a UN 31HA1/Y rating for transport of hazardous materials in Packing Groups II and III.

We keep a rotating stock of new tanks on hand for immediate pickup or delivery, and we can place factory orders for large quantities (20+ units) with 2-3 week lead times. Ask about custom colors, anti-static bottles, and stainless steel cage upgrades.

Accessories & Parts — Keep Everything Running

We stock over 60 IBC-compatible accessories including replacement butterfly and ball valves, camlock adapters in brass and polypropylene, EPDM and Viton gaskets, vented and non-vented caps, heating blankets rated from 120V to 240V, temperature controllers, spill containment pallets, and grounding kits for flammable-liquid operations.

Most parts are in stock and available same-day with local pickup. We also carry specialty items such as food-grade silicone gasket kits, stainless steel fittings, and custom manifold assemblies for multi-tank systems. If we don't have it on the shelf, we can typically source it within 3-5 business days.

Rain Barrels & Planters — Creative Upcycling

Our rain barrels are made from retired IBC totes that are thoroughly cleaned and then modified with screened inlets, overflow ports, and garden-hose-compatible spigots. A single 275-gallon rain barrel captures enough water from a typical 1-inch rainstorm falling on just 450 square feet of roof area to fill completely.

We also convert IBC totes into raised garden beds by cutting the bottle horizontally and retaining the steel cage as a frame. The result is a 4-foot by 4-foot planting area at a comfortable working height, with built-in drainage and a structure that resists rot, termites, and UV degradation far longer than traditional wooden raised beds.

First-Time Buyer's Guide

Step 1 — Define Your Application

Start by identifying what liquid you will store and whether it requires food-grade certification, chemical compatibility, or UN hazmat approval. Water storage and irrigation projects can use any grade of used tote. Food processing requires reconditioned food-grade or new containers. Pharmaceutical and cosmetics applications almost always require new, virgin-material tanks.

Step 2 — Choose Your Size

The two standard IBC sizes are 275 gallons (1,040 liters) and 330 gallons (1,249 liters). The 275-gallon is the most common and fits through standard 36-inch doorways. The 330-gallon is taller and holds 20% more liquid for only a modest price increase. Both fit on a standard 48" x 40" pallet footprint and can be double-stacked when empty. Check our size guide for full dimensions and weight specifications.

Step 3 — Select Condition & Grade

Used totes are available in Grade A (excellent), B (good), and C (fair). Reconditioned totes are restored to near-new condition. New totes are factory-sealed. The right choice depends on your budget, application requirements, and cosmetic preferences. For most non-food uses, a Grade A or B used tote delivers the best value.

Step 4 — Plan Your Logistics

A full 275-gallon IBC weighs about 2,300 lbs when filled with water (130 lbs empty). You will need a forklift, pallet jack, or our delivery service to move them. We offer local delivery within 150 miles on a flatbed truck with a liftgate. For long-distance orders, we palletize and ship via LTL freight with typical transit times of 3-7 business days depending on destination.

Step 5 — Consider Accessories

Many applications benefit from add-ons. A garden hose adapter ($8-12) is essential for homeowners. A ball valve upgrade ($25-35) improves flow control over the standard butterfly valve. Heating blankets ($150-300) prevent freezing in outdoor winter applications. Spill containment pallets ($200-400) are required by EPA regulations for certain chemicals. We recommend bundling accessories with your tank order to save on shipping.

Why Buy Used & Reconditioned

Save 40-70% vs. New

A new IBC tote typically costs $250-$400 depending on size and configuration. A used Grade A tote delivers the same storage capacity for a fraction of that price. Reconditioned totes fall in between, offering like-new performance at 40-60% savings. For a business buying 50 totes, the savings can exceed $10,000 in a single purchase.

Prevent Landfill Waste

An IBC tote contains approximately 50 lbs of HDPE plastic and 80 lbs of galvanized steel. When these containers reach end-of-life without a buyer, they are shredded and sent to landfill or incineration. By purchasing a used or reconditioned tote, you directly divert 130 lbs of material from the waste stream and add years to the container's useful life.

Reduce Carbon Emissions

Manufacturing a new IBC from raw materials generates approximately 350 kg (770 lbs) of CO₂-equivalent emissions — from petroleum extraction and polymerization of the HDPE bottle, to mining and galvanizing the steel cage, to the energy used in factory assembly. Every reused tote avoids this entire carbon footprint.

Conserve Water & Energy

Producing one pound of virgin HDPE requires roughly 1.75 gallons of water and significant natural gas input. A 50-lb IBC bottle therefore represents about 87 gallons of industrial water and the energy equivalent of 2.5 gallons of gasoline. Our reconditioning process uses less than 15 gallons of water per unit — a 6x reduction.

Frequently Asked Questions

What were your used IBC totes previously used for?

The majority of our used inventory previously held food-grade liquids such as juices, syrups, vinegars, food oils, and liquid soaps. Some held industrial products like lubricants, detergents, or agricultural chemicals. We record and disclose known prior contents on every unit we sell. If prior contents are critical to your application, ask our team and we can pull specific units from inventory.

Do you deliver outside the St. Louis area?

Yes. We offer flatbed delivery within 150 miles of our St. Louis yard for orders of 4+ totes. For destinations beyond 150 miles, we ship via LTL freight carriers with standard transit times of 3-7 business days. We can also arrange full truckload shipping for orders of 50+ units anywhere in the continental US. Contact us for a freight quote.

Can I inspect before I buy?

Absolutely. Our St. Louis yard is open for walk-in inspection Monday through Saturday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. You can view our entire in-stock inventory, examine individual totes, and hand-select the exact units you want. No appointment needed for inspection visits.

Do you buy back used IBC totes?

Yes. We purchase used IBC totes in any condition. If you have one or one thousand containers to sell, contact us for a buyback quote. We can arrange pickup for lots of 10 or more totes within our service area. This is a great way for manufacturers, food processors, and chemical distributors to responsibly dispose of empty IBCs while recovering some of their original cost.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept cash, check, all major credit cards, wire transfer, and ACH payment. For established business accounts, we offer Net 30 terms upon credit approval. Purchase orders are accepted from qualified commercial and government buyers.
